Alternative to create a new Outlook profile + adding an account to it via Mail applet in the Control panel
The following method is an alternative method to add an Outlook account to Outlook desktop app, you typically need to use this method if you have an issue with your Outlook desktop. In my experience adding an account via Mail applets in COntrol Panel stick much better.
Having said that, let me break down the steps into 2 parts.
Part 1: Create a new Outlook profile.
- Close the Outlook desktop app.
- Go to Windows start menu then type in “control panel”
- Please make sure you select “View by : Small icons”, you should be able to see the Mail (Microsoft Outlook) applets then click it to open.
- On the mail applet> select use this profile option > select the newly created Outlook profile. This will force the Outlook app to run the app from the newly created Outlook profile.
Part 2: Add account to the newly created Outlook profile
- Once again, please make sure the Outlook profile you are trying to add an account has been selected as a default, if necessary you can delete the old Outlook profile.
- In order to add a new account to the Outlook profile, you need to go to the mail applet again in the control panel again. Select mail icon > email accounts > under email tab then select new button then proceed from there.
- Run the Outlook desktop app, Outlook app should be able to run the app from the newly created Outlook profile as well as from the newly added account.
